Dialogue 5+5: 14th conference of Foreign Affairs ministers opens in Algiers

Algiers hosted yesterday the 14th Conference of Foreign Affairs ministers of the Dialogue 5+5 under the theme “Western Mediterranean: promoting an economic, social and inclusive development, shared and sustainable, faced with the common challenges of the region.”

The European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn underlined the importance of Maghreb integration, and reiterated the EU commitment in favour of the cooperation with the North African countries in order to face the common challenges of the region. The issues linked to migration, employment, youth and sustainable development were discussed in this meeting.

Commissioner Hahn met with the Algerian Foreign minister Abdelkader Messahl and discussed the situation in the region and the topics of common interest.

The Dialogue 5+5 includes the five Maghreb countries (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya and Mauritania) for the Southern shore of the Mediterranean, and Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Malta for the Northern shore. The Secretary General of the Arab Maghreb Union and the Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean took part in Algiers conference.
