During the 16-days of activism against gender-based violence, the Centre for Egyptian Women Legal Assistance (CEWLA) launched a campaign (Violence is a Culture), emphasizing the role of culture and its impact on women as well as organizing a training for lawyers as part of with the goal of discussing the current culture’s connection to rising rates of violence against women.
The campaign was launched as part of the EU-funded project “More Fair Family Law for All Egyptians”.
It focuses on the use of proverbs to increase VAW, the influence of social culture on the application of the law, the impact of social culture on developing media materials that increase VAW, and the impact of social culture on disseminating false religious beliefs about VAW.
