EU-Algeria Association Council takes stock of current cooperation between both countries

The 12th session of the Association Council between Algeria and the European Union, co-chaired by the Algerian Foreign Affairs minister Sabri Boukadoum and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell was held on 7 December. The meeting was an opportunity to provide an update on the state of cooperation, as well as on the bilateral and regional issues of common interest.

During the meeting, the members of the Association Council renewed their commitment to deepen their partnership to reach its full potential. The parties exchanged on the way to reinforce the stability in the region and reviewed the important issues such as governance and human rights, economic cooperation and trade, environment, energy and migration.

High Representative Josep Borrell underlined that Algeria “is a very important partner for Europe, due to its proximity and size, its role in the region and on the African continent but also and above all the close ties that have united us for a long time.” He also expressed EU’s wish to “deepen the relations in order to reach their full potential so that we come out with a truly strengthened partnership.”
