The European Union and Lebanon held on Monday 27 June a technical roundtable on fighting the illicit trafficking of firearms. The aim of the meeting was to establish contacts at the operational level, enhance cooperation and exchange best practices in the fight against illegal trafficking of firearms.

The meeting was held as follow-up to the 1st October 2015 Conference between the EU and MENA countries on illicit trafficking of firearms and the 26 January 2016 EU-Lebanon Counterterrorism Dialogue.  EU representatives stressed that Lebanon is the first country in the MENA region to hold this type of consultation with the EU, which shows the willingness of both sides to deepen their cooperation on matters related to security and counterterrorism.
