On 19 November, an online session organized by EU-funded Med Dialogue for Rights and Equality on “Civil society engagement in policy dialogue” gathered selected Mediterranean civil society representatives, most of them with working experience on advocacy.

It was a great opportunity for participants to have in-depth exchanges with the facilitators on policy types (macroeconomic policies, institutional policies, structural policies and sector policies), policy cycle and public policy process.

Organized in a very participatory way, this activity aimed at increasing participants understanding and capitalization of the opportunities offered by the widespread adoption of policy dialogue as the main programming tool for international cooperation.

Online sessions will take place every two weeks. The next two online sessions will continue to cover the main theoretical aspects and guide the participants through a list of recommended readings that should allow them to deepen their knowledge on policy dialogue. These sessions will be followed by seminars focusing on two themes: ‘Addressing socio-economic inequalities’ and ‘Developing local governance and local democracy serving citizens’, scheduled for next year’s first months.

Med Dialogue for Rights and Equality is an EU-funded Technical Assistance Programme with the overall objective to strengthen the role of CSOs active at the regional scale, in building sustainable development, regional cohesion and resilience, as well as in influencing policy-making in the Southern Neighbourhood and the Euro-Mediterranean Space. ‘Mobilising local communities on regional issues of common concerns to influence the agenda of public decision-makers and regional institutions, and involve CSOs in emerging regional agendas and thematic dialogues’ is its core attribute.
