Med Dialogue for Rights and Equality, a regional Programme funded by the European Union, is gathering almost 35 civil society actors from five Arab countries (Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Libya, and Tunisia) on 18-21 July 2019 in Tunis, Tunisia, to take part in the regional consultation workshop “Building a shared vision for the Mediterranean: Vision Med 2030”.

The purpose of this first workshop is to facilitate a consultation process among the participants and provide them with a platform and safe space for dialogue, as well as a useful framework to develop a coherent set of goals and values aimed at shaping a shared vision for the future of the Mediterranean.

Participants’ profiles reflect a broad spectrum of experiences and backgrounds including researchers, human rights activists, theologists, agricultural economists, cultural operators, ecologists, entrepreneurs, etc. The workshop will also include a capacity development activity on dialogue and negotiation techniques to enhance the participants’ capacities in the subject, strengthen their regional networks, and eventually promote policy dialogue at a regional level.

A public roundtable discussion “Building a Mediterranean Community, a Sterile Utopia or Our Common Destiny?” will be held on the side-lines of the workshop, on Friday 19 July at the activity’s venue.

Med Dialogue for Rights and Equality is an EU-funded Technical Assistance Programme with the overall objective to strengthen the role of CSOs active at the regional scale, in building sustainable development, regional cohesion and resilience, as well as in influencing policy-making in the Southern Neighborhood and the Euro-Mediterranean Space. ‘Mobilising local communities on regional issues of common concerns to influence the agenda of public decision-makers and regional institutions, and involve CSOs in emerging regional agendas and thematic dialogues’ is its core attribute.
