To support the Community Policing efforts of the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP), the Mission’s Community Policing Advisers, supported by a senior trainer from the Netherlands Police, recently conducted a daylong training course in communication techniques and human behaviour, tailor-made for Palestinian front line police officers.

As communication is an indispensable ‘soft’ police skill, the ultimate aim of the training was to introduce aspects of human behaviour and application of influencing techniques, and how this can be used to build trust and enhance cooperation with all levels of the public. The training included different techniques designed to empower each officer to get closer connected to the citizens and thus to conduct his or her duty in a more balanced way. Through interaction between the trainers and the students, the students practiced their newly acquired skills in several assignments during the day.

EUPOL COPPS is the European Union Co-ordinating Office for Palestinian Police Support. The aim of the Mission is to contribute to the establishment of sustainable and effective policing arrangements and to advise Palestinian counterparts on criminal justice and rule of law related aspects under Palestinian ownership.
