The EU-Lebanon Association Council met in Brussels on 18 July to review the state of bilateral relations, and exchange views in particular on priority actions, including growth and jobs, security and counterterrorism, governance and the rule of law, as well as migration and mobility.
EU High Representative Federica Mogherini and Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil also discussed the consequences of the Syria crisis as well as human rights and judicial reform in Lebanon.
“We discussed the political situation in the region, developments in Syria and their impact on Lebanon. We also discussed our strong partnership and agreed that we will continue to work closely together,” said Mogherini.
In the margins of the Association Council, the EU and Lebanon successfully completed negotiations for Lebanon’s participation in the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA). PRIMA is expected to mobilise joint research and innovation on two challenges relevant to Lebanon: efficient and sustainable food production and water provision.
