The visit will include the city of Aqaba, one of the implementation areas of the CROSSDEV project, under the responsibility of local partner JREDS, the Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan.

During the visit the journalists will be briefed about the CROSSDEV project and its scopes of emphasising the role of tourism as a tool to empower less-known destinations and boost socio-economic development.

The field trip will include the Islamic Ayla City, the Byzantine Church Ruins, Tell Al-Khalifa, Cedar Pride Shipwrek, the Underwater Military Museum and the Visitor Center of the Aqaba Marine Park. The tour will be the occasion to inform the press about the sites and the future development through the CROSSDEV project.

The objective of the CROSSDEV project is to contribute to the economic and social development in Mediterranean. It is co-funded by the European Union through the ENI CBC MED Programme. CROSSDEV strengthens and enhances sustainable tourism practices, emphasizing common heritage and resources. Specifically, the project intends to increase touristic competitiveness and attractiveness of less-known destinations and rural/depressed areas, adopting the Cultural Routes concept in selected areas of 4 countries: Italy, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine.
