On the 25th of November MedPROACT project joined Interreg Euro-Med project “MPA4Change” in Barcelona for a workshop under the umbrella of the of the Natural Heritage Mission of the Interreg Euro-Med. On this occasion, the “100MPA MED Alliance”, a collaborative initiative aimed at enhancing the resilience and effectiveness to climate change of the Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) System by integrating climate adaptation strategies in 100 MPAs across the basin by 2030, was launched. The event was held under the umbrella of the Natural Heritage Mission of the Interreg Euro-Med and was attended by MPA4Change partners and associated partners, representatives of different EU-funded projects, the Interreg Euro-Med Joint Secretariat, the Union for the Mediterranean and other supporters of the 100MPA MED Alliance. MPA4Change project is the fruit of a 10-year capitalization process, from designing, piloting, upscaling till transferring solutions that aim at promoting the role of Marine Protected Areas as nature-based solution to face the climate change in the Mediterranean. As MedPROACT will co-develop nature-based solutions and adaptation plans together with the coastal local communities, the connection and potential links between the two projects and the newly created alliance are there to provide stable foundations for a successful continuation of this initiative.
