A public audition was held last week-end by the children of the sociocultural programme Mazaya at the International School of Music and Dance in Rabat, Morocco. A series of auditions are being held in the framework of the sociocultural programme Mazaya, co-funded by the European Union and the foundation “Ténor pour la Culture” for a period of 36 months until 2019. It targets 75 children aged from 8 to 17 from Rabat, Salé and Casablanca. The project aims at using music as a means of social mobility, offering underprivileged children who dropped out of school a double training which combines basic education and intensive musical curriculum for a better socio-professional integration.

This audition will showcase the students of the young class devoted to brass instruments, launched last September. They will join their predecessors who are part of the groups of string instruments, wind instruments and percussions. Altogether, they will form the Youth Mazaya Orchestra. In the meantime, a varied repertoire was implemented by the artistic direction and the teachers in order to make the young students familiar with the greatest musical works and the secrets of their composition, to evaluate regularly the progress achieved and to make them discover the atmosphere of concerts and audience.
