The Palestinian Central Election Commission and the European Union met, on Wednesday 9 March 2016, with Palestinian civil society organisations that are active in the promotion of democratic practices. On the same day, thirty of these organisations signed individual grant agreements with the Central Election Commission. The grants, funded by the European Union, will promote the engagement and participation of the Palestinian public in future national elections, the Office of the European Union Representative in the West Bank and Gaza said in a press release. The activities will be implemented across the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and in East Jerusalem.
“Strong political institutions are institutions empowered by people and accountable to people. This is why democratic processes are important, leading to representative and accountable governments”, said the EU Representative Ralph Tarraf.
