On October 25 and 26, the Palestinian Judicial Institute (PJI), in cooperation with EUPOL COPPS and the Swedish National Courts Administration (SNCA), delivered a training on E-learning in Ramallah to judges and chief prosecutors who work as trainers for the PJI as well as to PJI management and its Board of Directors. The two trainers came from the SNCA, which also financed the training, while EUPOL COPPS supported with planning, translation and interpretation services.

A total of 19 trainees participated in the training as well as 5 Mission members. The objective of the training was to introduce the participants to the concepts of E-learning in order for the PJI to be able to develop and use this educational tool in the future. The training started with introductory speeches by PJI´s Director Rasha Hammad and by the Deputy Head of Rule of Law at EUPOL COPPS, Peter Stafverfeldt. The first day then mainly focused on what trainers need to know about E-learning; its advantages and limitations, how the tool is being used in the Courts of Sweden and pedagogical methods within E-learning.

The trainers also gave a presentation on the Swedish Court system. The second day of training was more focused on what PJI management and its Board of Directors need to know about E-learning. The trainers provided an in depth look at what skills, experience, hardware and software is needed to produce E-learning material. They also informed about the process and methodology used for these productions in the SNCA. Furthermore, they gave a briefing on the Swedish Judicial Training Academy (JTA), its organization and its function as well as an orientation on how to become a judge in Sweden. Based on the interest shown by the participants, who with their questions and shared experiences contributed a lot to the outcomes of the training, it seems to have been useful for the participants. In addition, the presentation on the organization of the JTA was relevant and requested since the Director of the PJI is currently reviewing the institute´s organization.
