EUPOL COPPS and the Office of the Security Coordinator conducted a joint workshop for members of the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) and the Palestinian Customs Police on 6-7 April in Jericho, focussing on leadership. The goal of this workshop was to increase the knowledge of leadership styles by introducing the command structure of major case investigative teams and the nine principles that should guide all major case investigations. “Major Case Management” is an internationally recognized investigative model developed in Canada for conducting complex and high-profile investigations. This highly structured approach to the investigative process ensures that a case is thoroughly investigated.
Additionally, participants were introduced to the DiSC assessment model, which describes four main personality styles. D stands for Dominance, i for Influence, S for Steadiness, and C for Conscientiousness. Everyone is a mixture of each style, but most people tend to fall into one or two main DiSC styles. By learning about their personality type and the personalities of the people around them police officers can tailor their approach to help build stronger, more effective working relationships and teams. The participants were then guided through a scenario where they used the skills and knowledge that they gained in the workshop in practical application.
