Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service Pedro Serrano, and EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator Gilles de Kerchove visited Jordan last week, meeting a wide range of Jordanian stakeholders to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation on counter-terrorism, security and countering violent extremism.
“Jordan is a key partner for the EU in the Middle East. We are together in the fight against terrorism,” said Serrano.
De Kerchove added: “Stepping up counter-terrorism cooperation with Jordan and other partner countries in the region is a strong priority for the EU and its Member States. Terrorism and violent extremism threatens all of us, and we need to address this challenge together.”
At the latest Association Council between Jordan and the EU in October 2014, both sides agreed to establish a security dialogue to review security challenges and pave the way for strengthened security and counter-terrorism cooperation between the EU and Jordan. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
