As part of its South Programme II, the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) visited Tunis on 7 March 2016 to hold a series of meetings with senior Tunisian officials to review the status of cooperation in the field of justice reform. At the meetings, the role of pilot projects to improve the judicial system and the management of legal proceedings was emphasised, as well as the interest that these projects have for the judiciary, judges, lawyers and litigants.
This visit helped refine the Council of Europe’s support for reform of the Tunisian justice system and coordinate with other donors and similar programmes including the Programme of Support to the Reform of Justice (PARJ) and the European Union “Twinning” programme.
