The European Union is closely following recent developments in Tunisia with some concern. This country is a very close neighbour to whom we are connected through a deep and strategic partnership.
It is going through a delicate time and the European Union is hoping that the Tunisian authorities are able to find adequate responses to the numerous challenges facing the country, both now and in the future.
As a long-standing partner, we are also very worried about the deterioration of the economic situation, in particular, and the resultant social impact.
It is crucial that the different political and social forces in Tunisia work together on a joint, inclusive project for the country.
The European Union is ready to support any efforts made by Tunisia to undertake urgent structural reforms.
