Improving access to prevention, early detection and treatment of women’s cancers is essential to contribute to women’s empowerment in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region, where too many women unnecessarily die from breast, cervical and ovarian cancer.

The Women’s Cancer Days are hosted by the Moroccan Government and organized by the Pan-Arabian Research Society for Gynaecologic Oncology (PARSGO) in partnership with the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), the World Health Organisation (WHO) collaborating Center for Cancer Early Diagnosis and Screening/CPO Piemonte Turin /Italy, the University Hospital Berlin Charité and the University Hospital of Hassan II Casablanca. This high-level scientific congress will gather around the World Health Day, on 5-7 April in Marrakech, over 100 international experts in women’s cancers’ prevention, early detection and treatment to discuss how to improve women’s cancers management.

In the framework of the congress, a regional seminar on “Cervical and Breast Cancer Early Diagnosis and Screening in the Euro-Mediterranean region” will take place on 5 April. Representatives of health ministries and international experts in the field of cancer prevention will share experiences and best practices as well as means to create a strong regional network in the field. The UfM and the WHO will present the project “Women’s Right to Health (WoRTH)”, which aims to support UfM Member States in developing and implementing national plans that facilitate access to prevention and treatment services for cervical and breast cancer. In the framework of the project, over 45,000 disadvantaged women (aged 25-65) are expected to be tested for cervical and breast cancer and sensitized to the risks and the importance of prevention. More than 300 health professionals involved in the early detection/screening programs will be trained.
