The announced unilateral annexation of the 30 per cent of the West Bank by Israel could jeopardize the cooperation that the country has been building in recent years with the Arab world and the Gulf countries. This move has already been condemned by the Arab League and categorized as a new crime against the Palestinians.
Extraordinarily, the United Arab Emirates have also made public its opposition in a column in Israel’s best-selling newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth. The annexation is perceived by the international community as the annihilation of the 1993-95 Oslo Accords, which foresaw the existence of a Palestinian state.
But Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu seems ready to keep his election promise and has announced that the legal process for annexation will begin from July 1.
