Trade, investment and industrial policy is central to the economic transformation and job creation strategies of developing countries. In the southern Mediterranean countries, despite numerous reforms undertaken over the past decades, structural transformation remains slow and the impact of these policies in terms of job creation remains weak, particularly for women and young people.
This topical report examines the development of such policies and their impact in terms of economic transformation, diversification of exports and the job market, with a focus on young people and women, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises in the region. The report also offers an analysis of the future trends set to impact the job market in the region.
