The programme ‘Participatory Democracy and Local Development’ (CapDeL), has announced the funding of 29 local development community projects in the framework of the second call for projects launched last august in 8 pilot municipalities (Djanet, Timimoun, Messaad, Babar, Ghazaouet, Djemila, Ouled Ben Abdelkader, El Khroub). An amount of 133.5 million dinars (1.038 million dollars) will be provided to the 29 selected community projects, out of 60 local initiatives which benefited from a project incubation process.

Organised in two training and coaching sessions, the incubator allowed the associative actors of the pilot municipalities to strengthen their capacities in project cycle management and territorial development planning, involving partnerships with other actors of the city (different governance levels, sectors, civil society, etc).

The programme ‘Participatory Democracy and Local Development’ (CapDeL), is promoted by the Algerian Ministry of the Interior, Local Authorities and Regional Planning and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with the support of the European Union. Through strengthening the capacity of local development actors, it aims at promoting a coordinated and transparent local governance, reinforcing social cohesion and developing an inclusive and diversified local economy. The CapDel is implemented in 10 pilot municipalities.
