A seminar on social and solidarity economy (SSE) was held yesterday in Algeria by the Support Programme Youth Employment (PAJE), result of the cooperation between Algeria and the European Union. The objective of the seminar was to inform more generally on SSE and its emergence in Algeria as a path to innovation and economic diversification, and more specifically on PAJE activities in terms of SSE.

In the framework of the promotion of SSE, the programme carried out in 2017 a study of the legal framework as well as a diagnosis of potentially job-generating and job-creating sectors. This study will serve as a basis for the next national plan for the development of SSE that the works of PAJE must contribute to its drawing-up.

Moreover, and since the SSE employers are, to a large extent, associations, the programme has financed the activities of 86 associations in the provinces of Annaba, Bechar, Khenchela and Oran, for a budget of 4 million euros.

PAJE programme is the result of a co-financing convention signed between Algeria and the European Union in December 2012 for a budget of 26 million euros (23.5 million euros for the European part and 2.5 million euros for the Algerian part). Its main objective is to support the action and reforms of the Algerian government in terms of national policies for youth.
