A series of training workshops on the rehabilitation of old buildings for professional trainers working in the heritage field in Algeria including architects, civil engineers, restoration experts, has been launched as part of the EU-funded “Support Programme for the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage in Algeria” (PATRIMOINE).

The trainings were held in 12 modules in Oran and Algiers and will continue until December 2017. The teaching approach is innovative because trainings will alternate between theoretical and practical courses on various restoration works of monuments and old buildings.

The heritage programme aims to support the inclusion of cultural heritage as a development tool in Algeria and to contribute to its identification, protection and development. It also seeks to build capacity in the sector at central and local level and provide technical support. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
