“The EU remains very committed to the development of the ancient, cultural, economic and human ties between Algiers and the cities of Europe”, said Marek Skolil, EU Ambassador in Algeria, in an interview published on Monday 22 February 2016 in the Review of the Algerian Ministry of Housing, and published on the EU Delegation’s website.
The Ambassador recalls that through its ‘programme of support for the protection and appreciation of Algerian cultural heritage’, the EU, in collaboration with the (Algerian) Ministry of Culture, launched a training scheme for structural restorers, architects and people dealing with audiovisual archives.
“An historic city like Algiers must develop in accordance with what the ancients called its ‘genius loci’ or spirit of the place. Algiers must make its values recognised through historical heritage and enhance its iconic city status”, the Ambassador added.
