The Anna Lindh Foundation’s President Élisabeth Guigou has called for an alternative narrative in the region to fight radicalisation, at a conference in Rome yesterday on building a positive agenda in the Mediterranean.

Guigou shared a roundtable on Mediterranean shared security policy with Italian Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti, British Minister for Europe David Lidignton, Moroccan Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar, and Nabil El Araby, Secretary General of the Arab League.

Guigou said military strategy was necessary to fight terrorism but highlighted that actions should go beyond the military, and shared the experience of the Young Arab Voices programme.

The Anna Lindh Foundation is preparing to launch a region-wide programme of action with youth which, will include large-scale investment in communication and advocacy training, and the expansion of the flagship “Young Arab Voices” debating programme.
