After its launch in 2021, 28th of November 2022, a new Day of the Mediterranean was celebrated, recognising Mediterranean culture, cooperation and embracing the rich diversity of the region. A multitude of events and initiatives focused on music will be held across the region to celebrate this second edition.
This year, the Union for the Mediterranean launched the online campaign “The Mediterranean, a journey through the senses”, inviting citizens and organisations to take action and share through a short video, a picture or a post which of their senses is stirred by the word “Mediterranean”. Throughout the year leading up to this edition, the Euro-Mediterranean ecosystem has been sharing stories of initiatives and personalities, transcending cultures and generations, in the spirit of inclusivity, diversity and cooperation.
The Arab Orchestra of Barcelona and the singer Judit Neddermann offered a concert specially designed to celebrate the Day of the Mediterranean on November 26th at the El Born Culture and Memory Centre in Barcelona.
In the framework of the Mediterranean Day and in coordination with the Union for the Mediterranean, the Anna Lindh Foundation also coordinated a unique celebration of the Mediterranean and its diversity at a community level with the participation of civil society organisation from 25 countries, who organised 36 community-based free musical performances.
