A conference and B2B meetings will be organised by the European Commission and the Jordanian Ministry of Industry in Brussels on 25 January, with the support of the EU-funded EUROMED Invest project. The event will present the enhanced trade and investment opportunities resulting from the recent decision to simplify rules of origin between the European Union and Jordan.

This initiative forms part of the EU’s support for Jordan in the context of the Syrian refugee crisis, and links in with Jordan’s own actions to encourage new investments, promote exports and create jobs for Jordanian nationals and Syrian refugees.

The EU-Jordan Decision of 19 July 2016 on the simplification of EU rules of origin covers a wide range of industrial products that could benefit from better access to the EU market including the textile & garments sector, engineering & electrical industries (electrical and home appliances), chemical products, plastic products, furniture and wooden products.

The conference, to be attended by European Neighbourhood Commissioner Johannes Hahn and Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Qudah, will bring together European and Jordanian trade, industrial and policy stakeholders and will be an opportunity to obtain information about trade and investment opportunities in Jordan. A B2B session will be also organised between Jordanian companies and European buyers and investors.

More than 100 participants from 10 different countries have so far registered including agencies and institutions, public and private investors, large companies, start-ups and SMEs, consultants, clusters and entrepreneurs.

The aim of the EUROMED Invest project is to boost private business and investment within the Euro-Mediterranean region to contribute to inclusive economic development. The project’s activities aim to empower Euro-Med business and investment networks to implement targeted strategies in support of SME development in specific sectors: agri-food, water and alternative energies, tourism, transport and logistics, cultural and creative industries.
