On 16 November, the Ambassador of the European Union to Jordan, Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, attended the inauguration of works at the Al-Ekaider landfill, marking a significant milestone in the partnership between the European Union, the Ministry of Local Administration, and the French Development Agency (AFD).
The €30 million Al-Ekaider project, fully funded by the European Union, is now well under way. This strategic investment forms part of a broader €100 million EU programme that supports the modernisation and long-term sustainability of Jordan’s solid-waste-management system.
The Ambassador reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to working closely with Jordan as the country advances towards stronger private-sector engagement in solid-waste management, increased efficiency in service delivery, and improved environmental outcomes for communities. The Al-Ekaider project illustrates the shared determination of the EU and Jordan to strengthen essential public services, enhance local resilience, and promote environmental sustainability across the country.
