The national delegations of the 14 participating countries will meet in Amman, Jordan, on the 4-5 December 2019 on the occasion of the sixth meeting of the Joint Monitoring Committee (JMC), the decision-making body of the EU-funded ENI CBC Med Programme.

The members of the JMC will approve the list of pre-selected proposals under the call for strategic projects, closed in July 2019. A total of 198 grant applications were submitted, in response to some of the key socio-economic and environmental challenges shared at Mediterranean level, including business development, social inclusion and climate change. The budget of the call is €68.5 million.

In addition, the Joint Monitoring Committee will review the state of play of the ongoing 41 projects worth €110 million. These projects, which gather over 280 organisations among Ministries, universities, local authorities and NGOs, focus on start-ups, sustainable tourism, commercialisation of research results, employment, water efficiency, waste management and renewable energy.
Finally, the main activities planned for next year, as well as the post-2020 perspectives for cross-border cooperation in the Mediterranean area will also be discussed.

The 14 participating countries are: Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Palestine, Portugal, Spain and Tunisia.

ENI CBC Med is the largest Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) initiative implemented by the EU under the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI). The Programme brings together the coastal territories of 14 EU and partner countries in view of fostering fair, equitable and sustainable development on both sides of the EU’s external borders. Through calls for proposals, ENI CBC Med finances cooperation projects for a more competitive, innovative, inclusive and sustainable Mediterranean area.

Under the 2014-2020 period, the European Union has invested more than €1 billion to support 16 ENI CBC programmes between EU Member States and neighbouring countries sharing a land border, a sea crossing or a sea basin, from the Arctic to the Southern Mediterranean.
