Two elementary and middle schools were handed over last week to the local community in Sabratha, Libya, after undergoing substantial renovations. The rehabilitation of the school buildings was financed by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as part of the Baladiyati (“My Municipality”) programme – a €50 million EU programme to help improve public services and access to education, health, clean water and sanitation in 24 municipalities across Libya.
Al-Tawila elementary and middle School and Al-Houria elementary school, located in the west of Sabratha, are hosting 700 students. Both schools underwent substantial renovations, expansions and updates to be able to host more students and provide them with safe and modern facilities.
Baladiyati is funded by the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF), created to address the root causes of instability, forced displacement and irregular migration. EUTF contributes to a better migration management and assists host communities.
