The EU Missions in Jerusalem and Ramallah today condemned the death sentence issued in Gaza on 9 October. “The EU Missions in Jerusalem and Ramallah recall the EU’s firm opposition under all circumstances to the use of capital punishment,” said a statement issued today.
“The de facto authorities in Gaza must refrain from carrying out any executions of prisoners and comply with the moratorium on executions put in place by the Palestinian Authority, pending abolition of the death penalty in line with the global trend,” said the statement highlighting that the EU reaffirmed yesterday, on the European and World Day against the Death Penalty, its “strong and unequivocal opposition to capital punishment in all circumstances and for all cases.” (EU Neighbourhood Info)
