The EU supports Tunisia to improve the quality of its tourism. An assistance programme has been designed for this purpose in the framework of “twinning” operations.

With a total amount of 1.4 million euros, the programme “Support for the implementation of a quality promotion system in the tourism sector” will be conducted by France and Austria. It will lead to the launch of a “new quality label for Tunisian tourism”, said a statement issued by the Delegation.

The official launch of the “Assistance Programme” was held Tuesday January 19 in Tunis, marked by the organisation of a seminar attended by the head of the European Delegation in Tunis, Ambassador Laura Baeza.

Tourism is a “key sector for Tunisia.” It “significantly contributes to the country’s economic growth, with 7% of the country’s GDP and employment and 15% of the workforce” said the Ambassador.

“The project will constantly promote an innovative approach, emphasising good governance and participatory approach as an information sharing tool and the participation of the sector’s various stakeholders, mainly that of professional service providers. The involvement of different regions offering tourism development potentials will be privileged,” says the delegation’s statement.
