TunisiaEU Twinning project supports Egypt’s electricity regulator, leading to better service for consumers
The Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (EgyptERA) recently marked the closing of its EU Twinning project in partnership with the Greek and Italian energy regulatory authorities. The 19-month project formed part of efforts to develop the Egyptian electricity sector, with funds from the European Union.
The project has positively contributed to the development of the electricity and renewable energy sector in Egypt. It delivered a comprehensive view to improve the electricity service based on international standards, in line with Egypt’s Sustainable Development Strategy 2030.
Additionally, implementing the project’s outcomes will result in creating a competitive environment within the sector, which will be reflected in the improvement of the quality of service provided.
This support resulted in many achievements, including the restructuring of the electricity tariff programme and the development of its five-year plan, which was put into effect by the cabinet in July 2014 and runs until July 2019.
