“Domestic violence is not fate, it can be confronted and changed”.
“Stop violence against women”.
“No bullying. No harm. Be a good friend”.
These words welcome you on posters hanging on the walls of the of the “One Stop Center”, located in the premises of the Civil Police’s (PCP)Family Juvenile Protection Department (FJPD) in Ramallah.
The PCP administers the centre, that provides essential multi-sectoral services for women and children, including the handling of the Help Hotline 106#, a dedicated emergency call center for women and children who are victims of violence or threats.
Connecting callers with the appropriate services and protection, the hotline operates with confidentiality and is accessible 24/7.
When EUPOL COPPS Police Adviser specialised in Family and Juvenile Protection, Anna Sanden, from Finland, met with senior PCP officers from the FJPD to step forward with her regular engagement in the field on 21 August, other EUPOL COPPS advisors working on related topics, such as cybercrime and Gender, joined the talks.
Just as cybercrime, Cyber gender Based Violence (GBV) is something that in our digital world presents similar aspects and threats, in Europe and Palestine, as elsewhere.
cybercrime aspects of family protection and Awareness outreach campaigns were the main topics of discussion for action during the brainstorming between EUPOL COPPS advisors, the FJPD Head of Training and a Legal Senior expert.
Building up on what is already being done on these topics with the new activities is key for effectiveness.
This is one of the reasons why during the discussions at the FJPD it was agreed that the Mission’s work and involvement in the Palestinian districts, where needs are greater, will be the priority.
