Creative Tunisia, in partnership with the ISAM, Gabès and the National Arts and Crafts Office, held a day of awareness-raising for students in the context of the GABÈS PLANT FIBRES cluster.

This event shone a light on the importance of the role of designer in promoting arts and crafts and showed how hubs can serve to bridge the gap between crafts and design.

The event started with the testimony of Ms Soulaima Ben Brahim, coordinator of the Nabeul Design Hub, on the Hub’s support service, followed by Ahlem Chikhaoui, a young entrepreneur whose business was incubated by the hub, who shared her experience of launching a brand, illustrating the advantages and opportunities of creative hubs for students.

Then it was the turn of Imen Charfi, a Tunisian designer famous for her minimalist and functionalist work with furniture and everyday objects. She also spoke of the Cocrea project and of her experience with the Gabès Cluster for the development of collections, thus illustrating the potential of design to showcase the know-how of Tunisian artisans.

The day ended with an online presentation by Chems Eddine Mechri, a Tunisian designer and creator of the “Né à Tunis” (Born in Tunis) and “NÊE” brands. He shared his work based on recycling and “upcycling”, presenting fashion and design collections combining authenticity and modernity while at the same time being socially responsible and committed.
