Some 30 Lebanese and Syrian young women and men congregated in Kfar Zabad, a small village some 60 Km away from the capital Beirut, where they attended a 5 days practical crash course on how to make a short film to convey a message. The training was part of the ‘Learn, Apply, Express’ (LAE) initiative, supported by the EU-funded Net-Med Youth project.

The training was a concentrate of theories, techniques and stages of video production, video camera use, filming angles, depth of field, acting, movie objective, message, scriptwriting, post-editing, and more. For some, this was the first attempt at shooting a movie.

During the training, a series of amateur films on various topics were produced as one of the first steps for youth towards further learning, civic participation and the integration of different media tools in their advocacy campaigns.

LAE is an initiative carried out in cooperation between ITVISM and the NET-MED Youth working group at UNESCO Beirut.

NET-MED Youth aims to improve the access and effective participation of young people in mainstreaming their priorities into legislation and national planning in the Southern Mediterranean Partner countries. Specifically, it aims to build the capacities of youth organisations in ENP South countries and to enhance networking among them in order to reduce the fragmentation of efforts and harness the collective potential of young people in achieving democratic transition towards active citizenship, political participation and social inclusion.
