ENCATC, the European network on cultural management and policy, is to hold its 24th annual conference from 5 to 7 October 2016 at the University of Valencia, Spain. ENCATC brings together over 100 cultural institutions from over 40 countries. Open to all, the conference will analyse the consequences that risk society has for education in general and for cultural management education in particular. An expert from the EU-funded Med Culture programme will present a workshop on culture, democracy and training in the Mediterranean.

For three days, artists, cultural operators, academics, researchers, policy-makers, students and media from Europe and around the globe will gather to attend international panels, take part in study visits, participate in knowledge-transfer sessions, network and enjoy the seventh annual research session.

On 6 October, Fanny Bouquerel, capacity development expert for the Med Culture programme, will present a workshop on culture, democracy and training in the Mediterranean. The objective of this workshop is to identify the main difficulties faced by the cultural actors in the region, and to hold a debate on the possible contributions that ENCATC and its members could bring to them. Two academics from Aix-Marseille University (France) will lead the workshop alongside Bouquerel.

Among many other inspiring sessions, Italian researcher Alessandro Bollo will explain how to place audiences at the centre of cultural organisations, Croatian curator Irena Sertic will give her point of view on how museum exhibitions can be a tool for educational and social change in society, and Spanish consultant Pepe Zapata will present TekneCultura, an online tool aimed at understanding and assembling an audience for cultural projects.

Med Culture is part of the regional programme “Media and culture for development in the Southern Mediterranean” which has been allocated a total budget of EUR 17 million over a four-year period, of which EUR 9 million is for the award of grants on a co-financing basis, and EUR 8 million for one capacity-development mechanism on media (Med Media) and one capacity development mechanism on culture (Med Culture). (EU Neighbourhood Info)
