The MEDREG Secretariat visited the Commission de Régulation de l’Electricité et du Gaz (CREG) and the Autorité de Régulation des Hydrocarbures (ARH) in Algiers.

The visit followed the successful MEDREG’s study visits to these two energy regulators with the objective of increasing cooperation and strengthening relationships between MEDREG and the Algerian energy regulators.

This mission to Algiers holds significant relevance in the context of Algeria’s pivotal role in Europe’s energy security during the recent winter season. Algeria, being a major gas exporter, ensured a stable and reliable supply to meet the energy demands of European countries. This visit enabled MEDREG to discuss and strengthen cooperation with CREG and ARH, not only to enhance regulatory practices and strategies but also to explore Algeria’s potential as a reliable partner to Europe and neighbouring countries of the southern shore of the Mediterranean.

As part of their mission to Algiers, the MEDREG Secretariat also took the opportunity to visit the European Delegation to Algeria, highlighting the importance of the collaboration between MEDREG and the European Union in advancing energy cooperation and regulatory harmonisation.
