The EU-funded MEDSTAT IV project last week organised a study visit to the National Statistics Institute (NSI) in Tunis to learn from their methodologies and organisation in the field of statistical business registers and economic surveys.
Participants from several countries from the southern Mediterranean region took part, most notably Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Morocco and Palestine.
The NSI General Director opened the sessions with a welcome speech, recalling the history and steps that the NSI took to arrive at a satisfactory level of business statistics, also mentioning that other improvements are planned in the NSI’s future programme. The first session was chaired by the National Coordinator of the MEDSTAT IV project.
The MEDSTAT IV project provides expertise and technical support to promote the harmonisation of statistics in line with EU and international standards in 6 domains: business register and business, trade and balance of payments, energy, labour market, migration and transport. It follows on the previous phase implemented over the period 2010-2013.
