SPARK has launched Silphium Labs, the inaugural business incubator in Al-Bayda, Libya, in collaboration with Omar Al-Mokhtar University. This groundbreaking facility is a cornerstone of the Libya Startup programme, which is funded by the European Union and carried out by SPARK in partnership with Super Novae.
Silphium Labs is designed to provide extensive support to startups and small-to-mediumenterprises (SMEs) in underserved regions of Libya. The incubator offers invaluable resources, including mentoring, incubation services, specialized training, networking opportunities, and access to vital funding, all aimed at empowering entrepreneurs in the area.
A noteworthy focus of Silphium Labs will be supporting startups addressing the urgent challenges posed by the climate crisis and fostering green entrepreneurship. The name “Silphium” pays homage to the ancient plant that once flourished in the area, symbolizing the region’s rich historical legacy and entrepreneurial potential.
The launch event attracted a diverse group of attendees, including students, entrepreneurs, local community leaders, business experts, and university staff, all of whom gathered to celebrate this pivotal addition to Al-Bayda’s entrepreneurial landscape.
