Palestine has closely assessed the status of Sustainable Consumption and Production and produced a report with the support of the EU-funded SwitchMed programme. The report highlights strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, and various initiatives, in addition to the roles of the national stakeholders. The SCP assessment will be the milestone upon which an SCP national action plan (SCP-NAP) will be developed.
Although this was the first SCP activity in Palestine, this assessment was developed through an effective participation of all stakeholders in the sector, representing government institutions, private sector, civil society as well as international donors and partners. The document was presented in the final draft shape in a wide consultation workshop to all stakeholders for final validation.
Palestine is currently in the phase of finalizing their SCP-NAP which will cover three sectors: Tourism; Housing and Construction and Food and Agriculture.
The SwitchMed sustainable consumption and production programme aims to promote a switch of the Mediterranean economies towards sustainable consumption and production patterns and green economy, including low emission development, through demonstration and dissemination of methods that improve resource and energy efficiency. It also seeks to minimise the environmental impacts associated to the life cycle of products and services, and, as opportune, to promote renewable energy. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
