The EU-funded ‘Sustainable Water Integrated Management and Horizon 2020 Support Mechanism’ (SWIM-H2020 SM) project has published the second edition of its newsletter, highlighting its key activities throughout the months of February, March and April. The publication announces, among other news, that the project’s technical expertise provided to the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Water Expert Group was formally recognised in the Declaration of UfM Ministers in charge of Water on the new UfM Water Agenda.
A number of Expert Facility Activities have already been launched, including the “Technical assistance for the sustainability and replication of Lake Bizerte governance process” (EFH-TN-5) aiming to assess the Bizerte Charter implementation process and to reinvigorate the commitment of the various stakeholders in support of the Charter and the sustainable management of Lake Bizerte and Lake Ichkeul basin, and an Expert Facility activity in Lebanon to promote the Private Sector involvement in water infrastructure with emphasis on wastewater treatment plants.
The ‘SWIM-H2020 SM’ Project aims to contribute to reduce marine pollution and a sustainable use of scarce water resources in the countries of North Africa and the Middle East. With a budget of 6.2 million euros, the three-year project builds on the work of two previous EU-funded projects going back to 2009.
