UN Women, UNESCO and the European Union, in partnership with 2M and the Hip Hop Family Association, are launching a Rap/Slam competition for young people from November 13 to 30, 2024.
Entitled Paroles d’Égalité, this competition aims to raise awareness among younger generations and mobilize the public around gender equality and the fight against violence against women and girls, through artistic expression and the power of words.
Young people passionate about Rap or Slam are therefore invited to express their talent through a performance video around themes related to the prevention and fight against violence against women and girls, the denunciation of physical, sexual, psychological, economic and administrative violence in different contexts (family, marital, work, educational, public space, virtual/digital), the experiences and stories of survivors of violence, the resilience and empowerment of survivors of violence and/or the role of men and boys in promoting gender equality and the fight against violence against women. Performances can be performed in Arabic, Amazigh, French or English.
The performances will be evaluated by a jury composed of representatives of the organizing entities. The three best performances will be rewarded during an awards ceremony to be held on December 9 in Rabat, offering the winners opportunities for visibility and support.
The contest is part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, which runs from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10, International Human Rights Day. To date, the campaign has mobilized more than 6,000 organizations in nearly 187 countries, reaching more than 300 million people worldwide.
