PEEB Med is an initiative under the umbrella of the Partnership for Energy Efficiency in Buildings (PEEB) that supports seven countries in the Mediterranean region by providing technical project assistance and finance.
The project, launched at COP27 supports 7 Southern Mediterranean countries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia) in their transition to low-carbon, energy-efficient and climate-resilient building and construction through technical assistance and concessional loans for large scale building projects (e.g. social housing, schools, health facilities).
In particular, it addresses the technical barriers and the costs to the energy efficient construction or renovation of buildings.
The project aims to drive transformational change in the building and construction sector, while also supporting countries in
achieving their climate mitigation targets, under their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).
To foster climate resilient sustainable development while improving the energy and environmental performance of buildings, by providing technical assistance and financing solutions in the targeted countries.
Component 1 – Technical Assistance Facility:
The PEEB MED supports actors (public and private: ministries and public administrations, investors, promoters and owners) in the building sector through dedicated technical assistance, addressing different needs, including for example:
The Technical Assistance covers the financing of feasibility studies, and also supports effective project implementation in the construction phase.
Component 2 – Investment grant for Energy Efficiency costs
The Investment Grant will partially subsidize the additional costs linked with the energy efficient technical solutions designed and implemented, to make financing for energy efficient buildings more attractive and encourage the use of innovative technical solutions to improve buildings’ energy performance.
