Most Tunisians consider relations with EU good and would like it to play greater role, poll finds

Almost two thirds of Tunisians (64%) consider relations between the EU and their country good, while less than half of them (49%) have a positive image of the EU against 63% in the Maghreb region, according to the findings of a survey carried out in the framework of the EU-funded EU Neighbours South project.

The majority of Tunisians would like the EU to play a greater role in their country in economic development (71%), trade (63%) and human rights (59%). 53% of respondents believe the EU is an important partner for Tunisia, but only 41% consider that EU support contributes to the development of their country and 38% think the EU brings peace and stability in the region.

A vast majority of Tunisians (74%) are satisfied with their life but only 20% are positive about the economic situation in their country and 16% think the employment situation is good.

This survey is part of the first series of opinion polls, conducted in seven EU Southern Neighbourhood partner countries: Algeria, Israel, Jordan Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia, looking, inter alia, at perceptions of, and attitudes towards the EU, level of information about the EU awareness of EU financial support as well as the general mood of respondents in the Southern Neighbourhood countries, including their views on current and future economic, employment and general life situations.
