The 25th meeting of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Regional Platform on Research and Innovation took place on 8 June to discuss the region’s future priorities for research and innovation, in particular the needs in a post-pandemic world and a new updated research agenda.

Among others, the meeting set the stage for the creation of an Experts’ Technical Working Group to examine and make proposals for implementation of regional strategic priorities. Additionally, updated guidelines on the functioning of the Platform were adopted. The discussion was informed by a preliminary questionnaire, which aimed to identify national needs for regional cooperation based on thematic priorities and holistic actions.

The virtual meeting was co-chaired by the European Commission, represented by Maria Cristina Russo, Director for International Cooperation (DG-RTD), and Jordan, represented by Arafah Dia-Eddin of the Higher Council for Science and Technology, with the participation of the UfM Secretary General, Nasser Kamel.
