On 24 February 2016 the EU Delegation in Algiers announced “the setting up of a national environmental information system (EIS)”, by the National Observatory on the Environment and Sustainable Development (ONEDD).

This system was set up as part of an eighteen-month ‘twinning‘ programme funded by the EU (850,000 euros). The Delegation stated that France and Austria had ensured the implementation of the project. The project is intended to “support the ONEDD in improving its operational capabilities and implementing the EIS”, and is part of the ‘Support programme for implementing the Association Agreement between Algeria and the European Union (P3A)‘.
