Conference: Challenges and Opportunities for Housing Rehabilitation in Historic Urban Settlements in the Arab Region

Recognizing the role of historic Arab Cites and Ksours in urban development and economic and social revitalization, as well as the importance of safeguarding urban heritage through effective and innovative housing solutions, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) is joining hands with UN-Habitat, Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and UNESCO to highlight the potential of these territories, through the organization of a regional conference on “Challenges and Opportunities for Housing Rehabilitation in Historic Urban Settlements in the Arab Region”.

This regional conference which will be held in Marrakech, Morocco from 13 to 15 December 2023, aims to take stock of the status of housing in historic settlements in the MENA Region, through case studies from different countries, from all relevant angles (legal, administrative, technical, financial, environmental, social, etc.), to define the needed solutions, that would prevent or reverse their degradation and disappearance, and finally to propose operational pilot projects to test these solutions.
