The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Confederation of Egyptian European Business Associations (CEEBA) in Egypt, officially launched the El Amreya Pilot project, the first Wholesale market fully powered by solar panels.

The project includes a solar photovoltaic unit with a capacity of 100 kilowatts, which is sufficient to cover the entire market’s energy needs and is linked to the unified network to sell the surplus energy generated, which increases the operating economies.

The MAIA-TAQA pilot project is supporting Egypt’s energy transition by promoting innovative resource efficient solutions that can be replicated on a large scale. Egypt’ over 250 wholes sale markets could contribute to producing up to 25 MW if converted to clean energy generation.

According to its Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy Egypt aims to produce 42% of its energy mix by renewable energies by 2035.
