The association of Mediterranean Energy Regulators (MEDREG) took part in a workshop in Cairo on 4 April 2016, organised by the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS). Egypt’s gas market has been facing major challenges, and long term solutions for the reform of the gas sector need to be implemented. These include the restructuring of the gas market and the adoption of a new regulatory framework. In line with its strategy for 2020-2030, MEDREG is committed to supporting the development of competitive and transparent gas markets in member countries.

At the workshop, MEDREG and EGAS identified a set of actions in support of gas regulatory reforms, including the setting up of an independent regulator.

MEDREG promotes a transparent, stable and harmonised regulatory framework in the Mediterranean region, fostering market integration and infrastructure investments, as well as aiming to protect consumers and enhance energy cooperation.
